POLOKWANE- As matric learners begin their final exams, Mitchell House honoured the Matric Class of 2015 at a prize giving ceremony on Monday night. The evening began with a performance by the choir who ended off with a prayer for the matrics. The guest speaker of the evening, Sandy Hudson, an ex teacher at the school, took to the stage to address the learners. She encouraged the learners to get involved with community service and spoke of its benefits in the long run. The evening then progressed with the handing out of awards and trophy’s, handing over of the 2016 prefects as well as the matric learners receiving their rings.

Head Girl, Panashe Furusa was the recipient of Academic Subject Awards for English, Life Orientation as well as Life Sciences as well as a Re-Award of Academic Half Colours. She stands between Sandy Hudson and Andrew Cook.
Sechaba Madisha was the recipient of two awards. His first was the John Hudson Trophy which is awarded to the learner who, in the opinion of the staff, most exemplifies the spirit and ethos of Mitchell House College. This award came with a cash prize. He also received the Best All Round Grade 12 Pupil of the Year which acknowledges and rewards the learner’s contribution in all spheres of school life. He stands between Sandy Hudson and Andrew Cook.
Michaela Pakkiri received an Academic Subject Award for Mathematical Literacy. She stands between Sandy Hudson and Andrew Cook.
Maxene Mamogobo received an Academic Subject Award for Business Studies. She stands between Sandy Hudson and Andrew Cook.
Sandy Hudson stands next to Phuti Nailana who received the Mitchell House Trophy and Certificate for Senior Sportsman of the Year. He is beside Andrew Cook.
Rendani Mphelo received a Certificate of Achievement from the Enrichment Centre and played an integral role in the Life Skill Class. He stands beside Jess Dale.
Sandy Hudson stands beside Ompfa Sitholimela who received the John Harman Trophy for Sportsmanship. The award acknowledges fair play, the acceptance of victory and defeat in the appropriate spirit as well as team spirit. Ompfa stands beside Andrew Cook.
Mariam Hassim received a Certificate of Achievement from the Enrichment Centre for her courage and perseverance. She also received the Tenacity Trophy for persistence and determination. She stands alongside Sandy Hudson.
Mamothama Malahlela received the Drama Trophy for her contribution to Drama at Mitchell House. She stands between Sandy Hudson and Andrew Cook.

Sandy Hudson stands behind ‘Aalia Shaikh who received the Chaeli Trophy which goes to a learner who has shown exceptional kindness, in a natural, spontaneous or sincere way. ‘Aalia stands beside Andrew Cook.
Sherwynne Steyn was one of the evening’s biggest winners. He received the Attendance Award for 100% attendance from Gr 8 to Gr 12; Accounting and Afrikaans Academic Subject Awards; Re-Award of Academic Half Colours, the Unobtrusive Service Award and the Dux Trophy in recognition of him being the top academic pupil of the year across all subjects. With the Trophy he also received a Canon EOS 1200D Camera. Sherwynne stands between Sandy Hudson and Andrew Cook.
Dikabelo Ramashala was also one of the evening’s big winners. He was the recipient of Academic Subject Awards for Mathematics and Physical Sciences; the Khetan Vallabh Science Trophy for the highest Grade 12 Science mark; Re-Award for Academic Half Colours and the Unobtrusive Service Award. He stands between Sandy Hudson and Andrew Cook.
