RAL set to improve Limpopo’s road infrastructure

The Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) continues to forge relations with strategic partners in an endeavour to improve the province's road infrastructure

LIMPOPO – The Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) continues to forge relations with strategic partners in an endeavour to improve the province’s road infrastructure.

The agency recently signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) with Rustenburg Platinum Mines LTD and the triangular partnership includes the Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure (DPWRI).

The purpose of this partnership is to ensure integrated development initiatives which will contribute towards infrastructure and socio-economic development in the province.

The MoU was signed by RAL’s chief executive officer, Maseleganye Matji, head of corporate affairs at Anglo American Platinum, Seara Macheli-Mkhabela, and DPWRI’s action head, Kate Machaba at the Greater Tubatse Municipality in the Sekhukhune District Municipality.

The agreement will be in effect for two years with an option for an extension.

“Anglo American Platinum is pleased to have concluded this agreement with the DPWRI and the roads agency. The company has accepted that it will have a presence in this province for many years and is therefore among the few corporate groups to take leadership,” said Macheli-Mkhabela.

The MoU emphasises cost-effective social benefits and sustainability are key in identifying projects such as the construction of clinics, hospitals, schools, child care centres, community facilities, offices, roads, transport-related facilities, water provision and treatment infrastructure, housing, power and lighting and recreational facilities.

Matji concurred that: “The signing of the MoU with Anglo American Platinum is going to improve infrastructure development in the Greater Tubatse area. The signing of the MoU will result in jobs being created and even opportunities for SMMEs will be available. I am happy with the trend that Anglo American Platinum is setting with government”.
