POLOKWANE – Writing Gr 12 end of year exams is never an easy task and the paper that usually causes the most sleepless nights is mathematics, whether it is paper 1 or 2.
Review spoke to several Mitchell House College Gr 12 learners after their second mathematics paper on Thursday to find out how they experienced the paper, what they thought was the most difficult question and how they prepared for the exam.
For Khani Tlakula the exam wasn’t terrible, it just took a lot of time as some of the questions were long. “The hardest question for me was the geometry question,” she said. Khani said she prepared for this paper by working through past test papers.
Sechaba Madisha had mixed emotions regarding the paper, but he said it was fair. Like Khani he also worked through past papers to prepare for the exam and agreed that the geometry question was the most difficult.
Dikabelo Ramashala recently received an Academic Subject Award for mathematics and said the paper was rather difficult, even though he only struggled with two questions in the entire paper. The most difficult question for him was the analytical geometry question.
Ompfa Sitholimela’s hardest question was also the geometry question. He said the exam was difficult but only because of time constraints. On time management in exams, Ompfa said he tries to work it out so he does a question a minute if possible.
Thandeka Kanyasa worked through Master Maths worksheets and past papers in preparation of her mathematics paper 2.
“The exam was okay, it wasn’t overly great but it wasn’t a train smash. It was a fair paper,” she said.
