What is on your list for your goals for this year? Further studies are always an admirable goal especially considering a report from the US College Board, ‘The Benefits of Higher Education for Individuals and Society’. This report highlights both the monetary benefits of higher education, and also lesser known benefits, including a healthier lifestyle and reduced risk of obesity.
According to Natalie Rabson of Boston City Campus & Business College, there are great advantages to taking your skills and qualifications to the next level. “The report argues that on average and for most people tertiary education has a high payoff. It is based on information that includes both vocational training as well as academic degrees,” she says.
One of the most important benefits of further studies are increased salaries. The report confirms that higher levels of education do result in higher earning power. Rumours of graduates sitting at home without employment have been proved unfounded. Further education definitely equates to better chances of employment according to the Human Sciences Research Council.
“Boston has introduced a wide variety of new courses to meet industry skills requirements, as well as methods of study that accommodate full-time as well as working students,” says Rabson. This means that you can choose an industry that suits your career interest, as well as a level of study to suit your time, your pocket and current qualification.
Industry options include human resources, paralegal studies; management marketing; financial accounting; business management; event management and counselling.
Not feeling ready to commit to years of higher education study? New options of study mean that should you not wish to commit to three years to gain a diploma as short learning programmes give you the skills necessary to be employed at a practical level.
“We are thrilled to introduce career options such as the retailer, the sales representative, the small business manager and the lay counsellor to the market” says Rabson.
Having further education shows commitment, perseverance and an interest taken in your industry, and to learn more; all positive traits that an employer will seek out.
It is quite difficult to be aware of all the options that are available for further studies, and most especially what options are best suited to you. “Most of the information for our courses is available online. But we do recommend that you come in and complete a career compass assessment, find out the industry you are best suited to, and then see what qualifications are open to you,” says Rabson.
