Micro embedded threading or PDO thread lift is a lunchtime procedure to lift certain areas in the face that have sagged due to sun damage or the aging process.
Anton Mathey, medical practitioner at Aesthetico Medical Aesthetic Clinic says PDO (polidioxonone) is a material that is commonly used in dissolvable sutures used by surgeons and dentists.
PDO threads are inserted in targeted areas under the skin to stimulate the formation of collagen. Collagen is the tissue that supports skin and stops the sagging process.
The procedure produces a tightening effect. The most popular areas where patients have the procedure done are the cheeks, brow, naso-labial lines and the jaw line. Other areas include the arms, buttocks and breasts.
Mathey says it is a relatively painless procedure. A numbing cream is applied to the area where the threads are to be inserted. Thereafter the area is carefully marked where the threads are to be placed. The thread is then inserted under the skin. Over a period of six to seven months the threads dissolve. During this time the collagen forms that give the tightening effect of the area. The effect lasts for two years.
He explains that the procedure takes between 30 to 60 minutes to complete and there is hardly any swelling or pain involved. Patients can go back to work immediately. Because of the nature of the treatment, bruising is a possible complication. The result of the PDO thread lift is not immediate. It takes about two months for the collagen to be formed. The results vary from patient to patient due to genetic factors, diet, smoking and alcohol use.
