With a line-up that includes multi award winning songstress Lira, Zonke, Tshepo Tshola, Judith Sephuma, Sfiso Ncwane, Winnie Mashaba and Colbert Mukwe-vho this year’s gospel and jazz festival at the annual Marula Festival is expected to pull large crowds.
The Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (Ledet) and Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) have secured the services of renowned South African gospel and jazz artists for the remaining leg of the 16th Marula Festival scheduled for Saturday in Impala Park Stadium in Phalaborwa.
“Last week for the Hip-Hop and Kwaito Festival we had a satisfactory number of revellers. We supplied 6 000 litres of marula beer and are now looking forward to have more people at the Jazz Festival,” LTA Spokesperson, Mike Tauatsoala said.
“Tickets are still available at Computicket, Shoprite and Checkers outlets for R100 only. We urge everyone not to miss out on the festival,” he said.
The festival was officially opened by Ba-Phalaborwa Mayor Anna Sono last Friday. The opening was preceded by cultural performances and a street parade with cultural dance groups and the South African National Defence Force Brass Band.
Sono appealed to the people of Ba-Phalaborwa to welcome people from other parts of the country and beyond.
Her sentiments were also echoed by Ledet MEC Seaparo Sekoati who encouraged the people of Phalaborwa in particular to be innovative by welcoming people in their homes.
