Many people have trouble with unsightly spider and varicose veins that can also be painful at times.
Spider veins are the fine unsightly veins under the skin of the lower leg. Many women suffer from this condition, but it is less common in the male population. The bad news is that it has a genetic origin, but the good news is that it can be treated and controlled by Sclerotherapy.
Varicose veins are the thicker, gnarled, bulging bluish veins on the lower extremities and can also be treated by Sclerotherapy. According to Anton Mathey a physician at Aesthetico Medical Aesthetic Clinic, the procedure is safe, relatively pain free and has been in use since 1930.
Pregnant women and persons with a history of deep vein thrombosis are not eligible for the procedure, but it has proven to be a life altering treatment for most other patients. The procedure is done in the consulting room with minimal discomfort and lasts about 30 to 40 minutes. The veins are treated by injecting a liquid into them that irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to swell and stick together. Over time the vessel turns into scar tissue and fades away.
After the procedure the leg is wrapped in compression bandages for three days. No sport or other demanding physical activities are allowed for the three days after the procedure but normal daily duties can resume immediately after the treatment.
Call Solene Wolhüter or Letichia van Schalkwyk on 015 291 2404 at Aesthetico for more information or to make an appointment with Mathey.
