Provincial Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has been promoted to Deputy National Commissioner for Policing with effect from
1 April.
Masemola was appointed as Provincial Police Commissioner in September 2013.
He reportedly earlier this year said he was pleased with the decrease in stock theft and contact crimes during his term of service.
Masemola apparently strived in earnest to create a higher and more visible policing presence in the province.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Ronel Otto confirmed that Masemola has already vacated his office to join the national structure.
She added that a female officer Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing Nonhlanhla Zulu will act as Provincial Commissioner until a permanent appointment is made.
