Lesiba Simon Kekana (37) was sentenced to 52 years behind bars during his appearance in the Limpopo High Court last Thursday. He stood trial for the murder of his four sons whom he by admission killed by slitting their throats in September last year.
Kekana was found guilty by Judge Joseph Raulinga last Tuesday after he pleaded guilty. His legal representative reportedly read a statement during the court proceedings detailing his confession and admission of guilt for the murder of his sons Bokang (13), Keneilwe (10), Hlologelo (6) and Lekgoledi (4) after a telephonic argument with his wife Lorraine.
It is reported that Raulinga ruled that although Kekana pleaded guilty without wasting court time, the aggravating circumstances in the horror murders far outweigh these actions. He also said that the circumstances of the case don’t at all deserve that he should have mercy during the sentencing.
Kekana was also found guilty on an additional count of assault relating to an earlier attack on his wife.
Kekana has been in custody since his arrest shortly after the incident. Kekana and his wife, who lives in Gauteng, were allegedly not on good terms and had an argument over the telephone. After their conversation he supposedly killed the boys by slitting their throats.
Kekana also claimed that he attempted to commit suicide, but failed as Police and members of the community at the time managed to force themselves into his house.
Lorraine reportedly broke down at the beginning of her testimony on Tuesday after relating to the court how she could hear her husband killing the children one by one over the phone.
