Sapa Yopa to join mass ride in honour of Madiba

Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club President, Sarel Nong, and several of his fellow club members will take a flight to the Eastern Cape on 18 July to take part in the 2016 Mathatha Rally in celebration of Nelson Mandela Day.

POLOKWANE – Nong says he was contacted by the Eastern Cape MEC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Pemmy Majodina, to come down to the Cape and take part in the rally.

“This is the second year the rally will take place and with Sapa Yopa being the biggest motorcycle club in the country, it is an honour for us to be invited to lead the rally,” Nong said.

He explains that the rally will start with a mass ride of 200 km from the Mandela Museum to Nelson Mandela House to Mandela’s house in Qunu in Mvezo village. He added that on the way the bikers will be taking part in charity work at various venues.

Nong says he feels blessed to be a part of the rally as it shows that the Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club has a good reputation upheld by their members countrywide. He says they are changing the misconceptions many people have of bikers being hooligans and criminals.

“With the charity work we do all over the country, people are coming to realise that bikers also care for the community and that we want to help make South Africa a great country.”
