58 Avenue in Sesehgo a dire strait

Whenever residents of 58 Avenue at Third House section of Zone 2 at Seshego speak of their plight, the deep gasps collectively confirm the unhappiness of dwelling in this street.

POLOKWANE – Albeit the stone-strewn street is approximately a kilometre long, the list of grievances is long enough to last these dejected residents a lifetime.

From burst pipes drenching the streets to dust generated by speeding vehicles and occasionally exposed electric cables.

The stench coming from a sewage plant in the northeastern periphery can ruin your afternoon appetite.

Placed in the periphery, muggers regularly pounce on pedestrians and rob them of their valuables while housebreakings are a disturbing recurrence.

Last week, the street was partly saturated with water coming off a burst pipe, resulting in the loss of a much-sought after resource.

The leaking underground pipe could be one of the ageing infrastructure it has been planning to replace in Seshego and in the capital city.

When the matter was brought to the attention of the Polokwane Municipality ahead of the weekend, Municipal Spokesperson Tshidiso Mothapo said the situation had not been reported to them, but yet promising bring it to the attention of the relevant departments to attend to.

“Polokwane Municipality is committed to ensure that all water related issues are treated with urgency as we cannot afford to let this precious resource go to waste. Please continue to report issues relating to overflowing sewer and burst pipes to (015) 2902623, 2622, 2628,” Mothapo said.

Regarding the makeshift speed humps which were erected in a bid to slow down traffic, Mothapo said the municipality has announced a project to replace old asbestos pipes in Seshego and the city. We started on a small scale in Seshego and prioritised major roads and areas which often experience bursts. The project will continue in this financial year.”
