LIMPOPO – Counterfeit goods with an estimated street value of more than R1,2 million was confiscated in a special Intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Crime Intelligence and Provincial Tracking Team.

These teams spotted a suspicious truck, escorted by a vehicle, travelling south along the N1 North which they stopped and searched.

The drivers, a 38-year-old Ethiopian national along with a 40-year-old Somalian national, were arrested said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“1000 boxes of shoes were discovered and the truck driver produced a suspicious invoice in an attempt to prove the legality of the goods they were transporting. When police told the men they were about to be arrested, one of the men allegedly produced R13 000 cash and tried to bribe the officers.”

The officers confiscated the money and arrested the men for possession of counterfeit goods and bribery added Ngoepe.

The suspects will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday) and police investigations continue.
