‘Not a hostage situation’ – police

This follows reports of an alleged hostage situation at a business in Hans van Rensburg yesterday

POLOKWANE – No case was opened following a labour dispute at a business in Hans van Rensburg Street yesterday (Monday), says the police.

Five employees at a well-known security company were ‘held hostage’ at their workplace by around 40 guards who alleged they have not been paid. The police were called in to intervene.

According to Polokwane police spokesperson WO Lesiba Ramoshaba, no case was opened. “The incident was not a hostage situation, it was a labour issue,” he said.

The matter was resolved between the parties involved he confirmed.

POLOKWANE – An alleged hostage situation is unfolding at a business in Hans van Rensburg Street.

According to reports, 40 guards have held five people, four women and one man, hostage in the business after allegedly not being paid. Reports suggest there are four women and one man in the building.

Police are currently on scene.
