MKVA, SACP defend as YL spits fire on Stan’s position

While the ANC Youth League in the province seems hell-belt on ousting the Premier and ANC Provincial Chairperson, Stanley Mathabatha, members of the SACP and MKMVA are spitting fire saying Mathabatha should stay on for another term.

LIMPOPO -Even though the provincial elective conference will only be held early in 2018, the league seems to have launched an aggressive campaign to have Mathabatha dethroned.

League Provincial Secretary, Che Selane threatened to plunge the province into turmoil should Mathabatha remain in office as premier and party provincial chairperson.

The league accuses Mathabatha of not having the interest of all young people in the province at heart.

“Under his watch, the AG reports paint a bleak picture, departments perform poorly, youths are not strategically employed in government and the matric pass rate has dropped,” Selane claimed. He also questioned why the premier was mum on the issue of textbooks and stationery not being delivered to all school in the province yet.

MKMVA members don’t agree.

in the province could not agree with the league’s sentiments.

Veteran, Kgoshi Mohlamme Mathebe has come out in defence of Mathabatha.

“Mathabatha redeemed the province from the brink of collapse. He resurrected Limpopo when it was about to become a banana republic. He has united the ANC and the tripartite alliance with precision and distinction,” he said.

“But because we forget easily, we now bow to some ill-informed ‘Jim comes to Jo’burg’ who would do anything to to tarnish the image of the premier. When election time comes, I will use the powers vested in me to make sure he retains his position in the province,” said Mathebe during Mathabatha’s birthday party, held in Tooseng village outside Polokwane last Saturday.

On Sunday the SACP called on those seeking for Mathabatha’s head to rethink their position.

Provincial Spokesperson, Machike Thobejane said it was unjustifiable to attack Mathabatha simply because he was perceived to support a course that differs with theirs. He said the SACP is holding its provincial executive committee meeting this week, where issues relating to factionalism would be discussed at length.

Thobejane said the SACP would defend Mathabatha and ensure that those with malicious intent, do not have a leg to stand on.

Mathabatha told CV he had no knowledge on the supposed attack from the youth league, and that he was not prepared to comment on the matter.

Political analyst Elvis Masoga, said Mathabatha’s reputation since the province was put under administration, speaks for itself.

“I think under his tutelage, Limpopo has moved on to greener pastures. Corruption and maladministration as well as several other issues have been addressed,” he said.
