Cop killer sentenced to 48 years behind bars

The South African Police Service have welcomed the conviction and subsequent sentencing of 26-year-old Aretse Nkabang Moraba by the Polokwane High Court yesterday (Wednesday).

LIMPOPO – Moraba shot and killed 33-year-old Police Constable Kekana Pule Edward during an operation in April last year.

According to spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the deceased member was with other police officials, tracking Moraba, an armed robbery suspect near a tin house at Ga-Mogashoa, Sekhukhune. “Moraba opened fire from inside the house and the  deceased was struck on the throat. He died on the way to hospital,” he said.

Mojapelo added that Moraba was sentenced to a total of 48 years imprisonment. 18 years for Murder, 30 years for two counts of armed robbery,  6 years & 3 years respectively for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The sentence for murder and possession of  unlicensed firearm and ammunition will run concurrently.
