Toy gun lands man in cuffs

The suspect was one of 29 people arrested in Mankweng over the weekend due to various crimes ranging from robbery to assault.

POLOKWANE -Mankweng police spokesperson, Sgt Mosima Makgaba said a 23-year-old man was found with a toy gun which he allegedly use to rob residents.

“Nine people are facing charges of assault and three cell phones and a laptop were found during the operation. We advise residents to avoid arguments at all costs because they initiate fights,” explained Makgaba.

Among the 29 arrested was a 57-year-old man who was arrested on a charge of murder after the person he attacked in December passed on last week.

It is alleged that the suspect attacked the deceased with a sharp object in December after an argument and the victim was admitted to hospital for medical treatment.

The police filed an attempted murder case after the incident but it has been changed to murder after the victim died.

The suspect will appear before the Mankweng Magistrates Court tomorrow.

She further urged young people to stay away from criminal activities and always walk away when someone starts an argument to stay safe.

She added that they arrested 29 people starting from Friday until today (Monday) morning.

She said the police will continue fighting criminals in the community.
