Corrupt police detective nabbed

During an investigation, the detective allegedly demanded R4000 in order to give a seized firearm back.

LIMPOPO- The Hawks’ Anti-Corruption Unit on Wednesday, 29 March 2017, arrested Detective Constable Khatazo Jane Hlongwane (35) from SAPS Letsitele for corruption.

Hawks police spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke says the suspect was investigating a case of unlawful discharge of a firearm against the complainant whose firearm was seized when the money was demanded.

“The matter was reported to the Hawks and a trap was set up. This resulted in the immediate arrest of the suspect after receiving the money demanded from the complainant,” explains Maluleke.

Hlongwane appeared in the Letsitele Periodical Court on Thursday (30 March 2017) and she was granted R1000 bail.

The case was remanded to 26 May 2017 for further investigation.

“We encourage the community to report all corrupt officials to the police,” concluded Maluleke.
