Health Dept gears up for Easter weekend

The department says it has contingency plans in place for those visiting the province over the upcoming long weekend.

POLOKWANE – The Department of Health says it is welcoming all citizens and visitors from neighbouring countries who will be travelling to Limpopo for the Easter holidays and the ZCC pilgrimage at Moria.

In a statement issued by the department, it says Limpopo always experiences a high volume of visitors during this period and therefore the department has put contingency plans in place in all facilities to deal with any emergency cases that may arise during this period.

Spokesperson Derick Kganyago says emergency personnel and staff in all facilities will be on high alert during this period.

“While the Department will do everything possible to provide quality health care to everyone, we would like to request those on chronic medication not to default on their treatment,” he added.

Motorists are cautioned about silent killer conditions such as Hypertension and Diabetes which does affect one’s eyesight and is likely to result in accidents.

“We call on all motorists to drive carefully and not only check the road-worthiness of their vehicles but to also visit our clinics to get checked,” he said.

He further added that the department discourages the excessive use of alcohol, drugs and other illegal substances during this festive period and encourages people to remember that their health remains their responsibility.

“The Department wishes everyone a joyful and peaceful Easter Weekend,” he concluded.
