LIMPOPO – In what could be the perfect example for community policing, the police (assisted by members of the community) managed to recover a vehicle that was stolen yesterday during a house robbery that took place in Modimolle.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says three armed men entered the premises of the victim, and confronted Sakie Bloem (age unknown at this stage).
“The victim tried to fight them off but was overpowered and shot through the shoulder,” says Mojapelo.
Mojapelo explained that the suspects took Bloem’s motor vehicle, a white Toyota bakkie single cab (DCY 655 L) and a .308 rifle.
“The victim managed to call for help from the neighbor. Community members were then mobilized and the police were also called,” says Mojapelo.
A massive manhunt comprising the police and community members ensued following information that was circulated and the said vehicle was found abandoned on the R101 road in the Pienaarsrivier area.
“It is believed the suspect fled into the veld and one person was taken in for questioning,” explains Mojapelo.
The victim was taken to local a hospital and later transferred to Pretoria.
Mojapelo says Lim SAPS want to thank members of the local community for assisting the police in this case and says investigations continue.
“This action should serve as an example for people to work with us and not to take the law into their own hands,” Mojapelo concluded.
