Limpopo SAPS continue the fight against firearms

The province has experienced a high rate of crime involving firearms recently.

LIMPOPO- Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says these incidents include armed robberies, house robberies including farm attacks, business robberies and murder, among others, with theft and hijacking of motor vehicles also a problem.

“These incidents are taking place in several clusters where individuals, businesses and houses are being targeted,” Ngoepe said.

He added that a clean-up-operation occurred this weekend with the sole objective of eradicating these crimes.

A total of thirty suspects between the ages of 21 and 47-years-old were arrested and the following items were recovered:

– Twelve unlicensed firearms.

“The total estimated value of these recovered vehicles, including the engine, is R1.1 million,” Ngoepe said.

These firearms and cars were recovered in the following areas: Mahwelereng near Mokopane, Musina, Maake near Tzaneen, Thohoyandou, Nebo, Morebeng, Roedtan, Ritavi, Motetema, Groblesdal, Burgersgort and Lephalale.

Provincial Commissioner LT. General Nneke Ledwaba has once more assured citizens of Limpopo that the police are not going to rest until all these firearms are removed from the streets and he encouraged them to keep on the spirit of partnership policing at all times.

The General has also commended a team of members from various police units who are part of a large clean-up-operation which continues to make an impact in the fight against crime throughout the province.

Ngoepe says the suspects will appear before different magistrate courts soon and that investigations continue.

“Members of the community are commended for their continuous support they are giving to the police by supplying quality and reliable information which led to these milestone achievements,” he concluded.
