CAT worth over R40 000 confiscated during clean-up operation in Polokwane

The Limpopo SAPS clean-up operation focus on the mushrooming of drugs and proliferation of firearms

POLOKWANE – The clean-up operation led by the Provincial Drug Unit in conjunction with the Polokwane K9 Unit, led to the arrest of a 34-year-old man from Westenburg Ext 71 for possession of drugs.

“Two bags and 14 sachets of CAT estimated to the value of R46 300 were confiscated,” said Police Spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe on Tuesday.

Meanwhile in other parts of the province several suspects were arrested for various crimes in the same operation which lasted from last week to today.

Four suspects aged between 21 and 36-years-old were arrested in Musina for possession of explosives after police received a tip-off from the community about a vehicle with four occupants parked at a local fuel station. “The members reacted swiftly which led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of  black plastic bag containing five blasting cartridges and five safety copper fuses,” said Ngoepe.

Firearms, ammunition, suspected stolen goods and vehicles were also confiscated when 30 more arrests were made in the Giyani, Seshego, Thohoyandou, Vaalwater, Mphephu ,Lephalale and Tzaneen Policing areas.

Five firearms, magazines and ammunition were recovered.

Ngoepe added that all the arrested suspects will appear before the different local magistrate courts soon.

Police investigations continue.

Nine suspected stolen computers were also recovered.
