Emergency electricity shutdown in parts of Polokwane

Parts of the city have been left without power after four mini substations had to be shutdown for safety precautions, this after cables in the 11 000KV Station were wet due to a pipe burst on the corner of Devenish and Dorp streets .

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality has stated that this was done in order to protect against electrocution and damage to infrastructure in the city area, as well as to protect the 11000Kv sub from extensive damage that can result in longer period without electricity.

The following streets have been affected: Dorp, Burger, Compensatie and Jorissen.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to switch off all electrical appliances including geysers to avoid damage and motorists are advised to use the intersections as four-way stops and apply extra caution when crossing.

Technicians are on site to ensure that electricity is restored as soon as possible.

The municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused.
