A group of patients of the Cansa Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) ward of the Polokwane Provincial Hospital had the opportunity to forget about being ill for a day and enjoy fun activities with their friends.
Reach for a Dream invited ten boys and ten girls to spend the day with volunteers and having the time of their lives. The boys visited Sun Meropa’s go-kart track, the wildlife sanctuary, played putt-putt and enjoyed a snake exhibition, while the girls were each crowned Queen for the Day and enjoyed a day of pampering at a local spa.
Leapfrog Properties Polokwane arranged for the children’s day out to end with a lovely milkshake and snacks at a local restaurant. Johanette Rauch, Leapfrog Properties Estate Agent, also handed out age and gender appropriate gift bags to the TLC patients.
Rauch said each gift bag contained a lucky packet, fruit juice, snacks and a toy. “It was the least we could do. A friend of mine has a two-year-old son who is battling cancer. It made us at the agency realise that we have to do something, no matter how small, to make the burden of paediatric cancer patients a little lighter,” she said.
