Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched 16 years ago, Cashbuild has helped more than 2 700 schools in Southern Africa with over R33-million worth of building material and eight Limpopo schools each received a building material voucher worth R15 000 which was presented at the Cashbuild Groblersdal store opening recently.
The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork was displayed at the opening ceremony and will remain on display in the Cashbuild Groblersdal store for the next six years, according to a recent media release from the company.
Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively.
The Manager’s Choice award was also presented to the overall winner, Leleti Mashigo from Mafato Primary School. This award was announced on the day and the winner received a stationery pack and glass trophy. Leleti also officially opened the store.
Learners and educators from Mafato Primary School, Groblersdal Academy, Lekgolane Primary School, Laerskool Julian Muller, Motheong Primary School, Nkoane W Maditsi Primary School, Tsimanyane Primary School and Montsosa-Bosego Primary School attended the store opening where the learners entertained the guests with song, dance and poetry. This extension of the project provides a showcase for schools to bring their cultural programmes to the community and collectively express their creativity, ingenuity, initiative and resourcefulness.
The principals of each school reportedly commented on how they would be able to use the building material to improve their schools and thanked Cashbuild for the company’s involvement in the community.
