Lephalale: Family uncovers missing 11-year-old girl was raped

The girl had been missing since 9 December but returned home after four days.

LIMPOPO – Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says police, in conjunction with the community of Marapong outside Lephalale, conducted a search operation following the disappearance of an 11-year-old girl.

“It is understood the girl left her parents house to play in the neighbourhood and never returned back.

“The search was up and running when four days later, the victim came back home and it was uncovered that she was raped by an unknown suspect,” Ngoepe explained.

As the suspect is unknown, no arrests have been made as yet but Ngoepe says investigations continue.

“Child safety is a direct societal responsibility, especially for parents and guardians. Movements and the whereabouts including the type of friends of your child has must be an ongoing routine to prevent these types of incidents from happening,” he concluded.
