MEC of Health’s festive message

As the curtain for the year 2017 is gradually closing down, we are proud to reflect back on both the opportunities we created and also challenges we have managed to surpass as the Department of Health.

LIMPOPO – It is during this time of year when we appeal to all our communities to remain health conscious, especially with their actions.

As friends, relatives and families celebrate their achievements of the year and welcome the New Year, I want to encourage everyone to undergo a health screening such as eye testing, diabetes testing, blood pressure check-up and HIV/aids tests among others to promote healthy lifestyles and remain safe. I further encourage the operators of public transport to join us in conducting health screening for these diseases to ensure we reduce road fatalities.

I also encourage the community to reduce the excessive consumption of alcohol and other harmful substances to avoid negative impact on their wellbeing. Always eating a healthy, balanced diet, will ensure we prevent lifestyle-related chronic diseases. Those who are sexually active should ensure they apply the ABC approach which is to Abstain, Be faithful to their partners and Condomise during this season.

As I wish all the people of Limpopo and the employees of the department a cheerful Christmas and affluent New Year, I also want to extend my gratitude to all our healthcare workers who during this period when everyone will spend time with their families, they will spend sleepless nights attending to all our emergencies and saving this precious gift called life.

From the MEC for Health,

Dr Phophi Ramathuba
