A fresh face at the SPCA

Alfred Dlamini is one of SPCA Polokwane’s newest inspectors and his love for animals goes beyond just doing his job.

POLOKWANE – At the end of 2017, Alfred decided it was time for change and applied for a post in Polokwane where he was appointed as an inspector.

Having worked at the SPCA in Johannesburg since 1993, his motto is not to put animals down for no reason and he works by that motto as far as he can.

Alfred says the best thing about his job is not only that he is helping animals, but that he is also educaing people and assisting in the prosecuting of those that deliberately hurt animals.

“At the SPCA we do not just euthanise the animals, we look for new homes for them.”

Alfred says a negative aspect regarding his job as an inspector is seeing how other people hurt animals.

“It is terrible to see animals with their paws chopped off, or those that die from hunger having been chained up. It is my duty to make sure that justice prevails,” he said.

Alfred explains the biggest problem in Limpopo right now is the abuse of Donkeys. “We have found that some donkeys work hard without proper treatment and we try to educate people about this as much as we can.”

He says his love for animals makes his job worthwhile.

“Working for the SPCA was my first job and I never wanted to do anything else. I love animals.”
