“Late payment may lead to unwanted penalties” warns SARS

The 2017 tax season for provisional taxpayers closes on 31 January 2018

POLOKWANE – Individual provisional taxpayers are reminded that the deadline to submit their annual income tax returns (ITR12) through eFiling is 31 January 2018.

According to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) the deadline for paper forms has already passed and SARS gives a stern warning stating that “late payment may lead to unwanted penalties.”

They further explain that a provisional taxpayer includes any person who receives income, or to whom income accrues, other than a salary. This includes persons who receive rental income from a property, taxable interest income from investments or other income from a trade.”

SARS do however make certain allowance for taxpayers in financial difficulty and they are urged to approach SARS in order to make arrangements to pay in installments within the qualifying criteria.

For assistance with the submission of a return via eFiling, taxpayers can call the SARS Contact Centre on 0800 00 7277.
