Members of the Limpopo branch of the Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa (Bwasa) and guests were informed about opportunities offered in the financial sector during a breakfast session hosted at Natural Living Emporium in the city on Thursday.
Bwasa Limpopo Chairperson, Mmabogoshi Msiza welcomed guests and said there was a spirit of renewal in South Africa, where possibilities and potential to be created would far outweigh the realities of the hardship of poverty and inequality. “I need to remind you that as an NGO Bwasa works through strategic alliances in realising our vision of creating a platform for inspiration and empowerment. It is through initiatives and partnerships like this one that as an association we continue to create a pipeline of opportunities to support, connect and grow members,” Msiza said.
“Historically, women have been marginalised by society to take a back seat, and although we have made progress in many industries and have grown tremendously, those underlying characteristics still live in our minds. We need to break the mould and step out of our comfort zones. A woman’s life journey does not proceed in one direction, especially in the social, economic and political context, where we need to be a participant,” Msiza advised.
Msiza said that the secret to financial freedom is to have multiple streams of passing income. “Passive income is an important source of income. As women, we should continue creating avenues of generating passive income no matter how small the value. This will help you to build more wealth or just money for jam,” she concluded.
Msiza thereafter introduced representatives of Fraser and Associates Blue Star, Wally Fraser and Makhukhu Tladi and allowed them to do presentations outlining career opportunities within Sanlam’s structure and also inform guests about part time involvement in the marketing of a funeral plan. “Even full time businesspeople with time on their hands can supplement their income and create a passive income for years to come,” Fraser explained.
