Police have launched a search for Walter Maringa, one of the suspects in the murder of Hendrik Pieter Bonnema on his farm in Levubu in October 2016.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that they were unable to trace Maringa who had absconded from his last court appearance in December 2016 and now need the help of the media and community members to locate him.
Bonnema died at his homestead after he was allegedly attacked by three suspects who stabbed him with a sharp object in October 2016. Maringa was allegedly found in possession of the deceased’s cell phone during his arrest days after the murder.
At first Maringa, Mudau Sylvester Takalani and Khodani Tshishonga were denied bail and remained in custody but were later granted bail of R5 000 each and warned to appear in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court again on 27 December 2016. Ngoepe indicated that since then Maringa has failed to appear in court and a warrant of arrest was issued.
It is believed that Maringa might be hiding in Zimbabwe and can possibly be linked to several farm attacks in and around Levubu.
Anyone with information can contact investigating officer Richard Boshomane on 079 894 5501.
