Two policeman injured during unrest near Lebowakgomo

Four people have been arrested and will appear in the Lebowakgomo Magistrates Court, soon.

LEBOWAKGOMO – According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, police were summoned to Seleteng Ga-Mphahlele next to Lebowakgomo, where protests were taking place.

On arrival, the road had already been barricaded by the chanting protesters who were hostile towards police.

“The hostility reached boiling point when they pelted police members with objects. Two members were slightly injured and the windows of a police vehicle were smashed. One state firearm was lost during the fracas but was later recovered,” Mojapelo explained.

Reinforcements from Public Order Police were summoned to the scene and the situation was brought under control.

“The arrested suspects will appear in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate Court, soon, on charges of assault on police and malicious damage to property. Police investigations are continuing,” he concluded.
