POLOKWANE – The 12-year-old mathematics fanatic said that last year when she attended the competition she ended 19th and this year she managed to move up to third.
“I am very proud of myself. The hard work really did pay off. I worked hard day and night to ensure that I obtain the results set out to achieve.

“My mother, Aaliyah Patel calls me a star and says that I am shining so bright and paving the way for my siblings, leading by example.
“Next year I am going to enter again and I want to win a gold medal, first position,” she explained.
She received a certificate of participation, silver medal and a tablet.
Her teachers, Martin Themane and Johannah Mokgoto (mathematics HOD from the school) said that they are very proud of Meriam as well as the other learners who represented the school.
They have improved as a school with regards to their performance in mathematics.
“This year was a complete turnaround in terms of performance from our learners.
“We strongly believe that it was the continuous awards ceremonies we host at the school every term to award best performing learners, this encourage the learners to work even harder so that they perform at their best to make themselves and the school proud.
“The awards also encourages other learners to work harder so that they too can receive awards and acknowledgement for their hard work,” explained Themane.
