The Department of Social Development has in the current financial year set aside a budget of R19 million for the management and smooth operation of the Seshego Treatment Centre.
This is according to MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale when delivering her department’s budget vote speech in the Legislative chamber on Friday. She said the centre was officially opened on 23 October last year and started with admissions in November. Thus far, 47 service users were admitted to the facility and 33 discharged having completed rehabilitation programmes for a period of three months, she explained.
Rakgoale further highlighted that the department was committed to provide office accommodation to social workers and community development practitioners in deep rural areas to bring services closer to the people. She pointed out projects that were completed and officially opened in May as Mankweng and Gawula offices, adding that the Mookgophong offices would be completed in September while the ones in Saselemani are expected to be finished by March next year. An additional five office accommodation projects would commence in October this year in Dzumeri, Tshilwavhusiku, Bela-Bela, Moutse and Mecklenburg, Rakgoale stated.
