Lim Arts and Culture Department named best in country

MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Thandi Moraka, expressed her delight with the award, and gave credit to all the employees in the department.

POLOKWANE – The MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Thandi Moraka, congratulated her department on scooping the award for the best Arts and Culture Department in the country, and this for the second consecutive year.

Moraka expressed her delight with the award, and gave credit to all the employees in the department.

“I want to thank everyone in the department: from the HOD, chief directors, directors, their deputies and all the employees for the good work they are doing. I also want to encourage everyone to continue working hard so we can deliver on the mandate of serving the people of Limpopo with pride and dedication,” Moraka said.

She also congratulated all the winners of the South African Traditional Music Awards (Satmas) that took place at the Mabatho Convention Centre in North West last week.

The following winners hail from Limpopo:

• Daniel Brothers for Best Afro Song.

• Ndivhuho NL for Best African Jazz Song.

• Ipopeng Cultural Group Volume 1 for Best Sepedi Album.

• Buti na Buti for Best Xitsonga Album.

• Venda Boy Poet for Best Tshivenda Album.

• MOP for Best Vernacular Hip Hop Song.

Moraka said she is happy with all the winners and appreciate their talent.

“They have all represented the province and to us they are true ambassadors of this province,” the MEC said.

The Satmas are about celebrating music made in the style of the people and various language groups of South Africa.

Founded by Dumisani Goba, the awards aim to ‘eliminate tribalism and other divisive measures’ and the official slogan is ‘My Culture, Your Culture, One Nation’.
