Around noon yesterday (Wednesday) the ruling party’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) would have awaited the outcome of the weekend meeting of the African National Congress’s (ANC) national executive, during which the contentious issue of the reinstatement of two members of the Limpopo leadership collective was expected to serve on the agenda.
At the time of going to press ANC PEC spokesperson Donald Selamolela informed Polokwane Observer that they were waiting to hear what was being reflected during a briefing by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) following its meeting.
It was learnt that the PEC would have to be informed about the matter first before it could communicate with the Bring Back Our Leaders campaign which demanded the reinstatement of the party’s Deputy Provincial Chairperson, Florence Radzilani and its Provincial Treasurer, Danny Msiza during a protest at the party’s provincial headquarters last Thursday. It followed similar action at Luthuli House about a month ago.
During last week’s protest hundreds of campaign supporters affiliated to ANC branches across the province converged on Frans Mohlala House in Polokwane with instructions to party provincial chairperson Stan Mathabatha to present their memorandum, with the main demand being the immediate reinstatement of the two leaders, to the NEC on the weekend.
They have committed to not resting until normality was restored and Radzilani and Msiza reinstated, it was indicated in the memorandum presented by Bring Back Our Leaders campaign coordinator Reuben Madadzhe. “This is the last message that we are giving to Stan Mathabatha. We have been patient enough for almost eleven months,” he said. He referenced the decision to grant Mathabatha space to present the case on their behalf to the weekend meeting, threatening that failure to return without a proper response would lead to them going back to Luthuli House without negotiating any longer.
Mathabatha assured the crowd of the fluent and progressive articulation of the issues raised.
