Sanlam Limpopo hosted a dinner for stakeholders at a venue in the city last Thursday evening as part of the company’s networking initiative.
Temba Mvusi, Chief Executive of Sanlam Group Market Development, delivered the keynote address and said that Sanlam’s roots emanate from insurance, but are far more than that. “We have become a diversified financial services company offering life, short-term and health insurance, employee benefits, financial and retirement planning as well as investments and private wealth services. In some of these areas, we are the market leader, if not a pioneer in advancing transformation and innovation in the industry. We take our market leading position seriously and constantly strive to retain where we lead and move up where we are not the market leader”,” Mvusi said.
Alluding to Sanlam Group’s interim results covering the six months’ activities for the period ending in June that were announced on 5 September, Mvusi said that the group achieved a pleasing performance despite weak operating environments in South Africa and Namibia, as well as the general adverse effect of international political and economic rifts on emerging markets. “In the main, net result from financial services of R5 billion increased by 13% compared to the first six months of 2018. This is a credible performance,” Mvusi said.
“Our varied business reflects our diversification strategy, which supports the delivery of balanced and resilient results. The strategy has positioned us as the leading non-banking financial services company in South Africa. It will help to grow our business to new heights, while benefiting our stakeholders, staff, clients and shareholders as well as the communities where we do business and the economy and society at large,’ Mvusi concluded.
Willem Barnard, Business Manager of Sanlam Limpopo extended a word of thanks and added that Sanlam’s purpose is to build a world of wealth smiths in every country and community in which it operates. “The cornerstone of our purpose is our ability to create shared value for our stakeholders and by doing so, we strengthen their financial prosperity,” Barnard said.
