Eight schools in Acornhoek were announced the lucky winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition at the new Cashbuild Acornhoek Mall store last Thursday.
Madile, Kgwaditiba, Khokhovela, Timbavati, Makgahlishe, Masenyane, Sethlare and Sesethe Primary Schools each received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000,which means the schools will now be able to both improve and repair their premises.
In a statement issued on behalf of the company Mr Koza, Principal of Khokhovela Primary School was quoted to have said they have quite a bit of work to do around the school.
“We currently have a shortage of space when it comes to hosting the learners, so our first priority is to start on the building structure of one or two new classrooms. We also want to fix the ceilings in the current classrooms, as they are old and damaged.” He added that they also need to do some much needed maintenance on the ablution facilities.
Makgahlishe Primary School Principal, Mr Maaboi reportedly said he is grateful to be receiving the voucher. “We will be fixing some broken windows, repairing some classroom doors and do an overhaul on the current toilet facilities as we need to replace basins, taps and cisterns.”
He added that they will also be fixing the irrigation system around the school grounds as well as paint the kitchen.
Principal of Masenyane Primary School, Mr Makhubedu was quoted to have said: “We currently have a space problem at the school, so with the voucher we will be building an extra structure to host more students. We will also be doing general repairs, such as fixing doors and painting the current classrooms. We are so thankful to Cashbuild for this much needed assistance.”
The Cashbuild Art-at Heart competition entailed submissions of artwork by learners from each school to Cashbuild.
The artwork was judged and three winners from each school respectively received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates. The Manager’s Choice was awarded to a learner from Madile Primary School who was the overall competition winner.
The artwork was displayed at the ceremony and will remain on display at Cashbuild for the next six years, it was stated.
The Art-at-Heart campaign was launched
18 years ago and Cashbuild has helped more than 3 200 schools in Southern Africa with over R40 million worth of building materials.
Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
