POLOKWANE – Jack is a professional ballroom dancer and owner of JAMA and comes to school on a weekly basis to give dance lessons. He says ballroom dancing can help the learners increase their flexibility, range of motion, stamina and improve their mental focus.

“The repetitive motion and movements associated with dancing improves muscle tone, straightens posture, and also increases balance and coordination for the learners,” he says.
He adds that ballroom dancing can even decrease blood pressure and cholesterol, improve cardiovascular health, strengthen weight-bearing bones, can lower the risks of obesity and Type 2 Diabetes and promote increased lung capacity.

He says that there are many opportunities available to the young dancers, both girls and boys. “You can get jobs as a choreographer or dance teacher on a cruise ship, get parts in musicals and shows and with public exposure you can even land up on television, the list goes on. The learners can basically take up ballroom dancing as a profession when they’re done with school,” he concludes.
