Capricorn College for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Tvet) Seshego campus Civil Engineering and Drawing second year student, Lebogang Serakalala recently donated clothes to children at Pietersburg Provincial Hospital’s Cansa TLC ward through her campaign called Pick and Dress a Baby Foundation.
The 21-year-old student from Ga-Hlahla village in Moletjie has been assisting less fortunate children in her area, Ga-Molepo and Ga-Ramphele. She emphasised that she initiated the campaign in January after realising that there were many children from impoverished families who needed assistance. Serakalala is a self-taught make-up and wound make-up artist and uses the money she collected from her customers to purchase products to be donated to charity.
“The donation made at the TLC ward was part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I have realised that there are a lot of children who are being mocked in communities because they don’t have decent clothes so I am trying to boost their confidence. We recently had a fundraising event in my area and managed to collect about R700. I sometimes use the allowance money I got from my family to fund the initiative because it is what I am passionate about,” Serakalala explained and added that it was important for people to share the little they have with those who can’t afford basic needs.
She indicated that although their main focus was on children they also reach out to elders. According to Serakalala, they don’t only donate to charity organisations but also visit families to hand over goods. She pleads with companies and individuals for any sort of donation. Those who are interested to support the initiative can contact Serakalala on 067 212 0332 or email her at lebogangsharon990@gmail.com.
