Police in Seshego have opened an inquest docket after a 17-year-old learner was allegedly killed by lightning at Chebeng Village outside Moletji while walking to school on Tuesday morning.
Provincial Police Communications Head Mo­tlafela Mojapelo said the learner was identified as Mmatshwene Francis Leso and was a Grade 10 learner at Manare Secondary School.
It is alleged that he was accompanied by two other learners walking to school when he was killed instantly after being hit by lightning. The other two were not injured, according to Mojapelo. He warned people to seek appropriate shelter during thunderstorms as the rainy season which is associated with lightning has already started.
