Police ‘hot on the heels’ of Thohyandou CIT suspects
A robber and a security guard from Seshego were killed during a cash-in-transit robbery that happened in Thohoyandou last Sunday.
LIMPOPO – The incident, in which a large sum of money was stolen, occurred in the CBD when a security guard vehicle was ambushed by armed suspects. Shoppers in the area scurried for cover as shots rang out at around 10:00. Eyewitnesses claimed that at least three men had arrived in a sedan and ordered the guards to hand over the cash they were delivering at the time.
It is reported that one of the guards resisted, and was subsequently shot in the hip. The robbers made off in a vehicle after snatching the money from the guards. More shots rang out, and one of the robbers was wounded, with his body later being dumped in the bushes around the Louis Trichardt area.
The security guard was rushed to Tshilidzini Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival. SAPS Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said their investigations revealed that the deceased robber had been linked to a gang that was terrorising the community. Mohapelo issued a stern warning to would-be criminals, that the police were hot on their heels and that their arrest was imminent. The G4 security guard who was shot dead, was identified as Elias Rapakgali (38) of Seshego.
