Three young children drown in dam outside Tzaneen

The deceased includes a young girl (8), her brother (5) and a male relative (5)

LIMPOPO – Three children have drowned at Maunatlala village under Mokwakwaila policing area outside Tzaneen. The incident happened on Friday, 6 March at around 16:30 after an 8-year-old girl, her brother and a male relative, both aged 5, went swimming with a group of children in the local dam.

According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo the deceased were reportedly with a group of children when the drowning occurred. “After the three drowned, some in the group ran home to alert the adults. The residents then rushed to the dam and managed to retrieve the children from the water.”

The police were alerted and on arrival at the scene found the three children lying next to the dam and immediately transported them to Kgapane Hospital, where they were certified dead on arrival.

The deceased were identified as Nthabiseng Lebea (8), Robert Rahlaga (5) and Tino Rahlaga (5).

An inquest has been opened and police investigations still continue.
