Tommies athletes leaps and bounds ahead of their competition
Selaelo Mokgawa and Makoma Tjege were recently selected to be part of the Limpopo athletics team
POLOKWANE – Pushing yourself to be better than your last attempt is what pushes Selaelo Mokgawa, who was recently selected to be part of the Limpopo athletics team.
The 14-year-old learner from Technical High School Tom Naudé competed during the inter high athletics meet and took first place in both the 200 and 400 m races. Not only did he take first place, he improved his personal best times in both items. “I am very excited to be part of the Limpopo team. My sport star is Wade van Niekerk and I plan on working hard to one day follow in his footsteps. Wade motivates me to try harder every day, and that is why I give it my best when I train with oom Danie Roux for an hour and a half every day. But it is not only training that makes you the best, you also have to adjust your eating habits, this is a big challenge for me.”
Another promising athlete, is Gr 9 learner, Makoma Tjege, will be representing Limpopo and her school in field items. She participates in high and long jump.
“I was 10 years old when I started competing, and field items have always been my favourite. I love high jump the most and my personal best is 5,55 m.”
