Selelo’s chickens a runaway success

After he started his own branding company, he went from 100 chicks to 3 000 in just six weeks.

LIMPOPO – Many years working in the poultry industry motivated Selelo Edward Maseleka to start his own poultry business and the 39-year-old is ready to provide quality products to his customers. Maseleka hails from Ga-Makgato in Botlokwa and studied agricultural animal science at the Tshwane University of Technology.

He worked as a production supervisor at various well-known poultry companies and gained a lot of experience at these companies. This is where his passion to pursue opening his own company was born.

He started his business in 2017 with 100 chicks and sold them as live chickens. The following year, he started his own branding company called Farm Fresh and Delicious, and went from 100 chicks to 3 000 chicks in six weeks.

“I grow the chickens, feed them until they are ready for production and then package and sell them to my customers.”

He identified that his clients had specific needs and to ensure his company’s growth, he started to package according to their needs. He packages 2 kg of individually quick frozen (IQF) mixed portions, 1 kg of intestines mixed with head and feet and 1 kg of fillet breasts.
