’To all our road users, please be cautious’
MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya calls upon all road users to adhere to the rules of the road and to be considerate of others and think about the consequences of their actions.

The Festive Season is upon us and it is that time of the year where people travel to various destinations to relax while others use the opportunity to be with their families.
It is the season where we experience traffic peaks on all our roads.
Like other provinces, Limpopo is expecting migrant workers and holiday-makers to flood the roads in the next coming days to reach their destinations ahead of Christmas and New Year.
I call upon all road users to be cautious as they go about their private businesses during this hectic season. We have seen an increase of fatalities since the Safety Festive Season Campaign was launched and it is a cause for concern.
Speeding and alcohol remain the major contributing factors to the accidents recorded in the past few days. The number of pedestrians killed on our roads is also alarming and it calls for all of us to be vigilant.
I urge motorists to drive within prescribed speed limits and follow traffic rules. The violation of traffic rules lead to fatalities where people lose their partners and children are left to fend for themselves.
Let us be considerate of others and think about the consequences of our actions. I urge road users to ensure that your vehicles are roadworthy before you embark on your journeys. Those of you who will attend gatherings, do not drink and drive because you will be endangering other people while risking your own life as well.
It is my wish to see a decline of road carnages this year with a reduction of over twenty percent in fatalities.
Our law enforcement agencies will be combat ready to assist and ensure compliance. Let us work together and save lives. Transport and Community Safety is our collective responsibility. Do not be part of the statistics, let us change our behaviour on the roads and stay safe. We must take preventative measures beyond festive and stay safe 24/7 WayaWaya.
I wish all our readers a happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya
