Rhino poachers sought by Lephalale police

[NOT FOR SENSITIVE VIEWERS] Rangers contacted the police after they discovered two white rhino carcasses yesterday morning.

LIMPOPO – The police in Lephalale have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects, following the discovery of two white rhino carcasses at a nature reserve in the area.

According to Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Mamphaswa Seabi, rangers were patrolling the area at about 07:00, when they discovered a male and female carcass and contacted the police.

“A manhunt has been launched following the poaching of a protected and endangered species in the evening of Monday, 28 December. It was discovered that the rhinos were shot dead, dehorned and police found one .375 cartridge and one projectile at the scene of crime,” Seabi explained.

Anyone who can provide information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects, are urged to contact Col Alphius Mokale at 082 565 6524, the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.

Police investigations are continuing, concluded Seabi.
