Curiosity leads to a career
The 24-year-old massage therapist, Mantji Augusta Molapo, from Polokwane has chosen the career path out of curiosity.

For Mantji Augusta Molapo massage is therapy.
She explained that it is something that she saw on television and took an interest in. “I used to see massage therapists performing treatments on television and I knew I wanted to learn how to work with my hands like them, but little did I know I had to go to school for it,” she said. Her curiosity has paid off because she is loving each and every moment of her job.
The qualified massage therapist has been in the profession for two years now and some of the major challenges she faces is a lack of respect from clients. She expressed that some clients do not show respect for her work and she attributes this to a lack of knowledge, of what a massage therapist really is and what they do.
“We help the body heal itself with oil, hot stones and our hands. There is a magic in massage therapy and it doesn’t involve complicated medical treatments,” she said.
The perks of her job include the opportunity to meet and interact with people from all walks of life.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. The introvert in her also enjoys time alone in her room reading.
Mantji expressed that she is not one to plan ahead, however if a door opens, she will confidently walk in and command her space. She wants to evolve within and outside the industry as well.
“If you want to be a massage therapist, go for it, but it is important to do research and know the pro’s and con’s that come with the profession,” she said.
