POLOKWANE – Four children between the age of two and 12-years-old are among nine people killed in an early-morning head-on collision on the N1.
The Department of Transport and Community Safety reports that a motor-vehicle collided head-on with a truck near Tobias between Mokopane and Mookgophong.
Transport spokesperson Mafenya Lediga said the collision was caused by a tyre burst and has called on motorists to ensure roadworthiness of their vehicles before embarking on long trips and to always stay within the speed limit.
The N1 was closed at the time of the collision but Lediga confirmed that the road is now open.
