Stolen ammunition: EFF councillor in Seshego court
At the time of the group's arrest, protesting residents under Seshoka's ward held the view that his purported involvement signals an oath violation.
POLOKWANE – The speaker of the Polokwane municipal council, Welheminah Modiba assured residents that an internal process will be followed to determine if Jacob Seshoka, an EFF council member, was involved in a break-in at the police premises in the city where state ammunition was stolen on December 14.
During what police termed an intelligence driven-operation on December 28-29, seven firearms, five stolen rifles, two pistols, more than 400 live rounds of ammunition and explosives were confiscated from seven suspects around Seshego and Moletjie, where the ward 10 councillor was also detained.
It is not yet clear in whose property the state arms were found. During this EFF deployee’s first appearance with five alleged accomplices in court last Wednesday, charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition along with stolen property were brought. The group was remanded in custody for formal bail applications yesterday, tomorrow and Monday respectively.
At the time of the group’s arrest, protesting residents under Seshoka’s ward held the view that his purported involvement signals an oath violation. EFF provincial chairperson Tshilidzi Maraga said a mandate to comment on Seshoka’s arrest from the national office was still outstanding but that the party would release a statement once received.

Modiba is of the view that the outcome of the court process will also play a crucial role in determining the truth.
Through municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala, Modiba did not comment on whether the ward councillor would continue his usual council duties or not while he is facing criminal charges and if he is released on bail.
“We urge everyone to let the legal process unfold to guide us in determining a way forward,” she said.
