Limpopo Education MEC: No room for comfort zones in schools

There should be no room for complacency and comfort zones at the workplace for teachers and staff.

POLOKWANE – For Education MEC, Mavhungu Lerule- Ramakhanya, International Day of Education is about facing the reality that “we cannot expect best results at the highest level while there is continuous neglect of phases that should give us the very best results at Gr 12”.

The day is an annual international observance day held on January 24 dedicated to education by the United Nations (UN) to celebrate the role of education for bringing global peace and sustainable development.

“There must be deliberate investment and concerted effort to pay attention to all grades from foundation phase to the FET phase,” the MEC said.

“There should be no room for complacency and comfort zones at the workplace for teachers and staff, especially one that is charged with the massive responsibility of nurturing a young mind into a responsible citizen,” she added.

She and Premier Stanley Mathabatha said there was a need for an improvement from last year’s 79,5% provincial matric results beyond 80% in order to match UN’s call for sustainable development.

“Tracking back from 2021, we recorded a 67% pass rate and a boost of 5% in 2022 that took us to 72,1%. We call for handwork and an improvement of above the 80% mark,” she said during the celebration of the provincial matric results at a ceremony held at The Ranch Resort on Friday.
